Welcome to Austrey C of E Primary School
Welcome to Austrey Church of England Primary School, a small school with around 100 children aged between four and 11.
The school is set in beautiful countryside surroundings in Austrey, which is a small attractive village situated in the n
orthernmost point of Warwickshire
not far from Twycross Zoo, the towns of Atherstone and Tamworth and borders with Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire.
The current school building catered for children aged between 5 and 8 until 1995, after which it was extended to cater for children in the full primary age range.
There is an independently run pre-school building on site, enabling staff from both settings to work closely together for the benefit of the children. We have a well established induction programme in place which ensures that the children transferring to us from pre-school settle in quickly.
We work closely with other local schools, including The Polesworth (secondary) School to which most of our children transfer, collectively known as the Anker Valley Partnership, enabling specialist resources, teachers, learning support assistants and equipment to be shared, as well as visits and workshops to be organised jointly. Transition activities ensure the year 6 children are well prepared for their move to the High School.
Our strong links with the church, local community and external organisations ensure that our children receive a broad range of experiences within the school day and at before and after school clubs.
The school is well resourced to meet the needs of all the children in our care regardless of ability or back ground.
The school grounds include two play grounds, a large sports field, grassed play areas with many trees to provide shade, wooden shelters, outdoor play equipment including a trim trail and tyre park, a wild life garden area, school garden, raised vegetable beds, a designated forest school area and a chicken pen and run.
About The village of Austrey
It has approximately 400 houses.
There are two churches in Austrey, the Baptist Church built in 1808 and St. Nicholas' Church dating back to the 13th century. It was this church that built the original village school in 1850, which was in use as a school until 1969 when Warwickshire County Council built the current school building.
The old, original school building has been used as a village hall since 1969 and is in regular use by different organisations, of which the village has many including:
Austrey and Newton Regis Junior Cricket Club; Art Club; Austrey Rangers Football Club; Archery Club; Bridge Club; Gardening society; Golf Club; Womens' Institute; Allotment Society; Parish Council; Village Hall Trust.
There is also a thatched roof pub in the village. Outside the Bird in Hand pub stands a medieval plinth and cross thought to have been where a local market was held, and there are records of a market cross on this site around the 1300's.
The village also has a playing field, a playground area and a shop/post office.
Parents are welcomed in to school and work in close partnership with the head teacher and staff to ensure that all children's needs are met.
